The Shambling Mound is a CR 5 plant creature with lightning absorption and an engulf attack — the encounter that makes the party's most reliable area damage spell temporarily very counterproductive. Drop it in swamp encounters, as the guardian of a corrupted grove, or as the creature that has been growing in the flooded lower level of the dungeon the party has been avoiding.
