The Mender
“They say it was built to save lives. It just forgot where to stop.”
The Mender stands in a surgeon’s coat, quiet and upright, with a blank metal face and too many mechanical arms unfolding behind it. Each one carries a different instrument, from saw to needle to hook, ready for work that never really ends. It does not speak much. It simply identifies what is broken and begins.
Plot Hooks
- A physician begs the party to shut the Mender down before it “improves” every patient brought into its care.
- The construct is looking for a missing surgeon it still recognizes as its master, and it mistakes anyone in a white coat for an accomplice.
- A badly wounded ally could be saved by the Mender, but whatever it repairs never comes back quite the same.
